Whenever we read books we activate several parts of the brain. We start out with the visual cortex, back in the brain’s occipital lobe, to see and recognize letters. The temporal lobe, over by your ear, is engaged and helps figure out what sounds those letters correspond to, and the words those sounds make.   This is one of the most immediately useable books on the brain I’ve ever read. 5. The Female Brain By Louann Brizendine. Whether you’re male or female, this is a must-read book. The book details the phases and changes that a woman’s brain goes through (physically and hormonally) from childhood to post menopause and everything in : Tom Bilyeu.   Here are some great books that we use to teach kids about the brain in preparation for Healthy Brain/Screentime Turnoff Week. In first through fifth grades we use the Smartboard with pictures, info, and links to video and animations that show the brain, healthy and unhealthy neurons, and how neurotransmission works.   I am an avid reader and over the past few years I have shifted to reading almost exclusively books pertaining to the brain.
